Privacy Policy
Last updated October 6, 2026
The short version
- We collect what you give us (your account, profile, makes and messages) and a little about how the app is used.
- We use it to run Patch. We don't sell it, we don't show ads, and we don't use advertising trackers.
- You can download everything you've put into Patch, turn off usage sharing, and delete your account at any time from Settings.
This policy explains what Patch ("Patch", "we", "us") collects when you use the Patch app and hellopatch.app, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. Patch is currently in beta. If you have a question, email support@hellopatch.app.
What we collect
What you give us
- Account: your email address and password (stored only in a scrambled form we can't read). If you continue with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address and an account ID from them. Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your email.
- Profile: your name, handle, photo, bio, crafts, experience level, country and a link, if you add them.
- What you make and share: posts, projects, photos, videos, captions, pattern files, comments, likes, saves, follows, your stash and your project plans.
- Messages: the messages you send to other makers and anything you attach to them.
- Safety: reports you send, the content they're about, moderation decisions and appeals.
- Ravelry import: if you choose to import from Ravelry, the projects and stash details you import.
- Support: anything you include when you email us.
What we collect automatically
- Usage: basic actions in the app, such as which screens you open, saving a plan or publishing a make, and how fast screens load. This helps us improve Patch and tune your feed. You can turn it off with Help improve Patch in Settings › Account and data.
- Technical information: like most online services, the services that run Patch record IP addresses, device and app version, and error information in their logs to keep Patch working and secure.
We don't collect advertising identifiers, your precise location or your contacts.
How we use it
- To run Patch: creating your account, signing you in, showing your profile and makes, delivering messages and notifications, and building your feed and suggestions.
- To keep Patch safe: reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms and community rules, and preventing spam and abuse.
- To send emails you need, such as sign-in codes, password resets and account notices. We don't send marketing emails.
- To understand and improve Patch, using the usage information described above.
- To meet legal obligations.
Who can see what
- Public: your profile, the projects and posts you publish, your comments, follows and likes can be seen by other people using Patch.
- Private to you: your stash (unless you choose to show it), your project plans, imported projects, your settings and your usage information.
- Messages can be seen by the people in the conversation. If someone reports a message, the people who review reports can see it.
- If you take a break or delete your account, your profile and what you've made are hidden or removed as described below.
Who helps us run Patch
We use a small number of service providers. They handle your information only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in and server functions (hosted in the United States) |
| Cloudflare | Storing and delivering photos, videos and files; this website |
| Resend | Sending emails such as sign-in codes |
| GitHub | Running scheduled jobs, such as encrypted backups and preparing your data download |
| Google, Apple | Sign-in, only if you choose to continue with them |
| Ravelry | Only if you choose to import from Ravelry |
We don't sell or share your personal information for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of Patch (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information).
How long we keep it
- We keep your account and content until you delete them or delete your account.
- When you delete your account, we delete your account, profile, posts, personal stash and uploaded media. Some shared items stay with your name and account removed: instructions in projects other people have built on, messages in other people's conversations, and offer records.
- Encrypted backups are kept for up to 90 days, so deleted information can remain in them for up to 90 days.
- Data downloads are deleted 7 days after they're ready.
- Moderation records may be kept longer when needed to keep Patch safe or to meet legal obligations.
Your choices and rights
- See and download your data: Settings › Account and data › Download my data.
- Correct it: edit your profile, makes and stash at any time.
- Delete it: delete individual posts and comments, or delete your account in Settings › Account and data.
- Usage sharing: turn off Help improve Patch in Settings.
- Take a break: hide your account without deleting it.
Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU or the UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your information, to object to or restrict some uses of it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. You can use the tools above or email us. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. Where EU or UK law applies, we rely on our contract with you to run Patch, on our legitimate interests to keep it safe and improve it, and on your consent where we ask for it.
Security
We use encryption in transit, access rules that limit who can see each piece of information, short-lived links for files, and encrypted backups. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
Patch isn't meant for children. You must be at least 13 years old to use Patch, or older if your country requires it (for example 16 in some EU countries). If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
International users
Patch is run from the United States, and your information is processed there and wherever our providers operate.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. If the changes are significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
